Ac. & C.H., M.Th., LCSW Phyllis Bloom graduated in 1983 from the first class of the Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NYC and in 1984-5 attended and completed the International Acupuncture Program in Nanjing, PRC. On her return she taught at TSCA and was the Dean of Studies for several years. During this time, she met and began her studies with Dr. Leon Hammer, culminating in becoming a certified teacher of Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis for the Dragon Rises Seminars. She has studied Chinese herbs with Ted Kaptchuk and Jeffrey Yuen, and continues these studies to date. She has been a practitioner of Tai Qi Quan for many years. Aside from maintaining a private practice in NYC and in Woodstock, NY, Ms. Bloom continues her 20 year work in a NYC program for people living with HIV. She initiated an acupuncture program at The Fortune Society for those recently released from prison, and ensured its continuance by integrating into a local existing Oriental Medicine college. Prior to becoming fully involved in Chinese Medicine, she was a Massage Therapist (Swedish Institute of Massage, NYC, 1978) and a Licensed Social Worker (Univ. of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, 1967); these skills continue to inform and infuse her work.
