Certified Teacher: Brian LaForgia, L.Ac., Dipl. Ac. & C.H.
Brian LaForgia apprenticed in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with Dr. J.S. Yee in San Francisco from 1975-1978 and received his California acupuncture license in February 1979. In 1979 & 1980 he studied TCM theory and herbal medicine with Drs. Yat Ki Lai, Ken Pang and C.S. Cheung, MD and interned with Dr. Ken Pang in 1980. From 1981 to 1985 he studied with C.S. Cheung, MD, reviewing his weekly clinical cases as well as studies of the Shan Han Lun, spleen-stomach theory of Li Dong Hua, phlegm disorders, autoimmune disorders and kidney theories and disorders. Much of this work has been published in the Journal of the American College of TCM. In 1982-84 he also apprenticed with Dr. Mang Sang Yu at the Yang Sang Herb Company in Oakland, CA. Other teachers with whom he has studied include Miriam Lee and Wei-Chieh Yang (Dong Acupuncture), Miki Shima (Japanese Acupuncture and Kampo), Andrew Ellis (TCM Theory and Herbal Medicine), Shudo Denmei (Meridian Acupuncture), Jeffrey Yuen, Max Hung Wu (TCM) and Western herbal medicine with Brian Weissbuch of KW Botanicals. In the mid 1980’s, Brian taught a California certified course in TCM theory and Chinese herbal medicine for graduate students to qualify them to sit for the California state exams. He met Leon Hammer, MD, in early 1992 and has studied pulse diagnosis intensively with him up to the present. He is certified as a senior teacher by Dr. Hammer and teaches beginning, intermediate and advanced seminars in Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis in the US, Australia, Canada and recently in Taiwan.
